Your A&P course does not have to be done all at once like our other courses. A&P book chapters can be done and submitted one at a time throughout your training. This helps the student to avoid boredom and to continue learning what they really like.
Dog & Cat Diseases – The student learns about the most prevalent disorders of companion animal ill health , there causes, methods of diagnosis and how veterinarians treat these conditions and diseases with medications. This course gives the student a basic understanding of the medical side of pet health. It also helps the student to make comparisons between medical and holistic treatments.
Sports Nutrition for Dogs – Never are the basics of good nutrition more important than for the canine athlete. This course starts the student off with a terrific understanding of the nutritional fundamentals required for great health and peak athletic performance. Concepts covered include: digestion, commercial vs. home-made diets, how to interpret dog food labels, analyzing the quality of your dog’s food, understanding energy production; protein, fat, carbohydrate and water needs, vitamins and minerals, breed specific vitamin and mineral disorders, conditioning and performance; and, solutions to common problems like poor performance, poor appetite, diarrhea and weight-loss.

Diseases & Natural Remedies – This course contains a mountain of information on diseases and conditions, vitamins, minerals, amino acids, herbs, diet and nutritional supplements. From arthritis, constipation, and, epilepsy; to vitamin D, calcium, maitake mushrooms and gingko biloba. This training is a fantastic learning and reference module that covers over 45 conditions and the therapeutic use of over 170 herbs, supplements and complementary therapies.
Raw Food Feeding for Dogs & Cats – A fantastic course to help you guide the pet owner who wants to feed their pet a “species appropriate diet”. The ultimate “holistic” way to feed animals who are primarily carnivores. Learn about proteins, fats, carbohydrates, water, food quality, vitamins, minerals, fats, food supplements, food preparation, raw food recipes, how to transition an animal to raw food, vegetable and fruit mix recipes, treats and commercial frozen food products.
Breed Specific Nutrition – The student learns how to resource breed specific information in order to help the pet owner avoid conditiona that can be inherent to each particular species of dog and cat. Armed with this knowledge, the nutritionist can design a dietary and supplementation program to help increase the odds of good health.
Prescription Diets for Dogs & Cats – Learn about the most popular prescription food recommended by veterinarians and the reasons behind their dietary prescriptions for: weight-loss, diabetes, kidney and bladder stones, dental health, allergies, skin problems, liver problems, thyroid health, cancer, urinary health, cardiac health, gastrointestinal problems, arthritis and more.
Herbology for Dogs & Cats – A very straight forward course that highlights the safe and effective use of herbs for many diseases and conditions, with a concentration on parasites, fleas, worms, anxiety, nervousness, behavior problems, immune system, seizures, cancer, heart problems, hip dysplasia, eye problems, ear problems, digestive system, endocrine system, pregnancy, lactation and more.
Homeopathy for Dogs and Cats – Learn how to educate the animal parent who chooses to use homeopathy for their companion’s holistic health care. This course reveals homeopathic history, philosophy and preparation methods, the homeopathic view of health, stages of homeopathic use, when to seek veterinary help, homeopathic remedy reviews, constitutional and acute philosophies, understanding dosage and potencies and a review of over 100 uses for homeopathic health care. Everything you need to teach the lay-person about homeopathy.
Drug, Herb & Supplement Interactions – Many of your canine and feline clients will have medical conditions that may require veterinarian prescribed medications. This course provides you with the reference materials needed to help you determine any possible nutrient/drug interactions. This training helps you to detect if a nutrient or herb may interfere with the efficacy of a medication; or, if a nutrient or herb may help a medication do a better job.
Preventing Drug-Caused Nutrient Depletions – Everyone knows that drugs can have potential side-effects; however, drugs can also cause nutrient depletions. Knowing which potential nutrient depletions may be caused by a drug will help the practitioner to avoid nutritional deficiencies that can lead to more health problems later on. Supplying the right nutritional supplementation to your canine or feline client can help make a medication safer and possibly decrease potential side-effects.
Blood Work & Nutritional Interpretations – A nutritionist does not diagnose diseases via blood work or by any other method. We leave that to the veterinarians, who are the medical experts. However, there are often signs in an animal’s blood work results that can point to possible nutritional deficiencies and/or the need for better nutrition. This course teaches you about blood tests and their nutritional interpretation.
Canine & Feline Health Assessments – Learn how to assess a dog or cat’s overall nutritional status by using nutritional assessment guidelines from the Academy, the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) and the World Small Animal Veterinary Association (WASVA).
CPN Business & Legal Guides – Every nutritionist, for pets or humans, needs to learn the “scope” of what they practice and that there are limitations to every profession that must be adhered to. This course teaches easy to follow guidelines for the proper way to do nutritional counseling; and, how to avoid the practice of medicine. The student will also learn general business concepts that can aid in the development of a thriving pet nutrition counseling practice.
Counseling Practicum – Once the student has completed all course work, the CPN candidate is required to do a minimum of 10 nutritional counseling sessions (5 dogs and 5 cats). Students will be mentored by their teacher(s) through this process, to insure that proper procedures are followed and to help the student develop holistic health protocols for their clients. The student also learns how to write professional progress reports to veterinarians who may want to monitor their patient’s nutritional health.
