Our Master Herbalist Training Program is a distance learning program. Students communicate with their instructors via e-mail. Tests and assignments are sent electronically, completed by students, and then returned to the Academy for our staff of seasoned professional instructors to grade. COURSE DESCRIPTIONS, TUITION, BOOKS & ENROLLMENT

Track #1: Human Anatomy & Physiology

Note: Students with health degrees in related fields like massage, nursing, medicine, etc., may be exempt from the A&P requirement.
The Human Anatomy & Physiology Course teaches students the basic principles of all ten bodily systems, and how they are affected by the use of herbs. Assignments in this course are interspersed throughout Sections 2-6, enabling students to complete the A&P requirement incrementally.
This course focuses on the basic study of all essential bodily systems, including the Reproductive, Nervous, Urinary, Musculoskeletal, Respiratory, Digestive, Endocrine, Immune, Lymphatic, Cardiovascular, and Integumentary systems. In learning the various ways each system keeps the body functioning, the student will be better apprised of which actions to take when systems are in a state of imbalance.

Track #2: Herbal Theory and Practice

This fascinating course track features: a thorough look at herbal usage throughout history, comprehensive descriptions and profiles of individual herbs, classifications and chemical properties of herbs, the detailed elements involved in preparation of herbal formulas, how to remedy specific health concerns with the appropriate herbal aids, Yin & Yang theories, correlations and comparisons between Western and Chinese herbs, proper dosage & toxicity levels, as well as correct herb storage.

An informative analysis of protein food sources, vitamin-containing food sources, essential fatty acid food sources, and mineral food sources along with daily requirements- Essential guides which showcase basic food combining principles, lower carbohydrate, sodium and cholesterol eating habits, as well as how to find the trimmest cuts of meat- Detailed information about the distinct types of food & diet pyramids, which have enjoyed notoriety over the years, including the Food Guide Pyramid with serving sizes, the Traditional Healthy Mediterranean Diet Pyramid and the Traditional Healthy Vegetarian Diet Pyramid- A wide variety of charts and guides including: ‘A Healthy Way to Cut Calories,’ ‘The Reward of Fitness is Longevity,’ a fiber chart, fat grams counter, height & weight charts, aerobic target zone heart rate, the dietary target model for wellness and a calorie expenditure chart, in addition to our carefully selected basic nutritional supplementation recommendations.

Track #4: Herbal Detoxification

Many of your clients will undoubtedly, benefit from a regimen involving herbal detoxification. Whether from chronic exposure to various forms of pollution, or persistent digestive issues resulting from an over-processed diet, herbal detoxification can be of great benefit. This section of your herbalist training will instruct you in: general herbal education, the role herb, and supplements play in overall health, a comprehensive look at detoxification, including its origins, how to determine the need for detoxification, when to detoxify and how to embark on detoxification programs, as well as what to expect while detoxifying. Additionally, students will learn of the dangers of toxic overload, which organs handle detoxification and elimination, along with a compendium of detoxifying herbs, and proper herbal detoxification protocol.

Track #5: Herbs, Drugs, & Disease

This course track pertains to lessons involving the common maladies that afflict mankind, how medical doctors treat them, and how to treat these diseases with herbal medicines. This section also reveals the best ways to advise clients who, with medical supervision, may want to use both herbs and prescription drugs to achieve optimum wellness. You will also develop case analysis and cross-referencing skills that will ensure the safe, and effective use of herbal therapies. This herbalist training encompasses multiple facets of disease including diseases themselves, medical treatments of disease, diseases & prescription drugs, and detoxification programs. Additionally, the effects of herbology on the treatment of diseases is explored, with topics such as drug and herbal comparisons, single and combination herbal protocols, a listing of antibiotic, anti-parasitic, antiviral, cancer-fighting, adaptogenic and weight loss herbs, body system herbology, herbal contraindications during pregnancy, forms of herbal preparations, their potencies and potential, as well as specific herb-drug interactions.

Track #6: The Herbal Health Consultation

This track prepares the students for future client consultations, instructing them in the use of herbal health consultation questionnaires, as well as how to manage other information supplied by clients. Track #7: Herbalist Jurisprudence & Ethics

This track specifies what a Master Herbalist can and can’t do. We instruct students in how to employ correct ethics in their practice, and how to avoid any legal pitfalls. Consent forms are supplied along with practical, real-life suggestions for the legal and ethical practice of herbology.

Track #8: Herbalist Practicum

Students are required to complete ten herbal consultation sessions with family and friends, as part of their herbalist training. Sessions are completed one at a time and are submitted individually for evaluation. Instructors review each session, offer constructive feedback and help students develop exceptional interviewing skills. By the tenth session, most students will acquire the confidence to proficiently evaluate even the most difficult cases.

Track #9: Practice Building Strategies

This track details such subjects as:
determining an office location, common legal issues, ethics, practice management, the importance of efficient record keeping, successful marketing & networking, utilizing the internet in your practice, how to manage referrals, establishing a fee structure, navigating fiscal issues, personal development, and problem-solving.

Upon successful completion of our herbalist training, the student will be awarded the Academy’s 300-Hour, Master Herbalist (M.H.) Diploma.
