Our Online Clinical Pet Nutritionist® (C.P.N.®) Home-Study animal careers program is a professional training designed for those who want to combine their love of animals, with their knowledge of nutrition. Anatomy & Physiology for Dogs & Cats – All 10 systems of an animal’s body are affected by nutrition. Canine & Feline Health Assessments – This course explores correct nutritional assessment techniques for determining a dog or cat’s overall nutritional status, by using guidelines from the Academy, the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA), and the World Small Animal Veterinary Association (WASVA).
CPN Business & Legal Guides – This integral course provides students with a detailed look at the scope of what their future professional role as a nutritionist entails, and the related limitations of this role that must be adhered to. This course provides easy to follow guidelines for the proper way to conduct nutritional counseling; while, also being careful to avoid the practice of medicine. This course additionally covers general business concepts that can aid in the development of a thriving pet nutrition counseling practice.
Counseling Practicum – Once the student has completed all course work, the CPN candidate is required to do a minimum of 10 nutritional counseling sessions, (5 dogs and 5 cats). Students will be mentored by their instructor(s) through this process to ensure that proper procedures are followed, and to assist students in successfully developing holistic health protocols for their clients. Students also, learn how to create professional progress reports for veterinarians, who may want to monitor their patient’s nutritional health.
